Aanvullende procedure voorwas Paraffin Wax
In het verleden zijn Nederlandse stranden vervuild door paraffine was. Daarom heeft Nederland aanvullende maatregelen genomen voor het wassen van de geloste tanks. Het betreft hier zowel categorie X als categorie Y stoffen. Voor de wassing van deze tanks moeten schepen een aantal maatregelen nemen.
De chemicaliëntanker moet ter voorbereiding een aanvullende procedure volgen. Op het moment dat een scheepsagent een voorwas aanmeldt, krijgt hij informatie over de aanvullende procedure. De scheepsagent moet het schip, voor aanvang van het lossen, informeren over de aanvullende procedure.
Aanvullende procedure
- Cargo must be unloaded at the proper temperature (at least more than 10°C above melting point).
- As soon as the tank is empty, hot water shall be entered in the tank until theheating coils are flooded and heating coils shall be operated in order to heat up the tanks to melt the wax which is attached to the tank walls.
- Steam shall be used to heat up the tanks and tank walls for at least 1 to 2 hours, and subsequently washed with hot water (more than 60°C to 80°C).
- As normal pre-wash procedures do not inflict sufficient effect, hot water (more than 60°C,preferably more than 80°C) must be used.
- The use of the regular K –factor is not sufficient, instead a time factor shall beused of at least 45 minutes for washing per tank.
- Adjacent ballastwater tanks must be kept empty (if possible).
- Collection tanks must be heated and effluent must be unloaded to PRF or terminal and subsequently pre-washed as well according above mentioned procedure
- After unloading the washing water, ventilate the tanks to allow for visual inspection.-In case there are still excessive quantities of solid wax remaining in the tank(s),extra washing / disposal may be required.
