Merchant shippingEuropean medical certificates
Since 20 October 2007, seafarer medical certificates issued by an EU-member state or by Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland may be submitted at the application for a Dutch endorsement or when embarking a ship registered in the Netherlands.
The equal status is a consequence of the implementation of EU-directive 2005/45/EG in the Dutch Ships Manning Act.
In the light of above-mentioned development, the Dutch system of appointed doctors in the EU is no longer needed.
To obtain information concerning examination regimes you must approach the maritime authority in the respective country.
